Summer Camp: Jessica Chavez

I didn't really grow up going to summer camps. I did a lot of church retreats but all I know of summer camp is from Bug Juice and that terrified me. My family has never been the camp or even let's go camping type.

One year my church was doing a family camping trip and I was 15. I had only been camping one other time and it was with youth group and I hated it. Nonetheless me and my two friends decided that since our families didn't like camping we would go buy gear and be our own little family. In our minds this was something every other family did. Much to our surprise it was us and four other families, all of which were fairly young couples with about five kids. So there we were- 20 kids under the age of ten, 8 adults, and three fifteen year olds living the camping dream. As disappointed as we were at the beginning we ended up having a blast and got really close with the other families. I even picked up a few babysitting jobs after that!

I guess you could say that's my only summer camp (like) experience. Which is probably cause I was homeschooled.
